February 25, 2015 – The Energy Leadership Academy, a joint venture between Safety Management Systems, LLC (SMS) and Excelerant, honored its 22 inaugural program graduates on February 25 and 26, 2015. The program is designed for leaders in the energy industry with less than 5 years of experience managing others and professional leaders without direct reports.
“In light of the recent oil & gas industry changes, it’s increasingly important to focus on training tomorrow’s leaders. Everyday demands are challenging, but being a leader during tough times is a true test of character,” says SMS President Scott Domingue.
Excelerant Partner Jennifer Adcock says, “This program is a great opportunity for key leaders who are already great managers to hone their skills and continue developing for their current and future roles.”
The Energy Leadership Academy commenced in November 2014, and students met monthly at SMS’ training facility in Lafayette, Louisiana, for four sessions. The sessions covered the topics of: Being an Exceptional Leader, Being the Leader Your Team Wants to Follow, Getting the Results You Expect, and Having Difficult Conversations.
“I enjoyed the class format, the feedback from peers, and the practical skills I am already implementing,” said Thomas Hooks of Aggreko. “I would recommend it for anyone in the industry who has a growth mindset.”
“I am impressed with the quality of leaders participating in the program. It is gratifying to hear from their managers that their commitment to exceptional leadership is already making a noticeable impact at work,” said Excelerant Partner Jill Meaux.
“This Leadership Academy was a valuable experience all the way around, said Jared “Tully” Blanchard of HB Rentals. “The Excelerant facilitator was phenomenal, and the Safety Management Systems facilities were first class. Inside our peer group, we had a top notch team of industry leaders who shared their experiences freely, and all of us were able to benefit greatly from benchmarking each other’s leadership styles. I highly value this leadership development experience, and I as well as my organization will undoubtedly gain from it as I move forward with my professional development.”
